Pope Francis' encyclical, Laudato Si', really resonates with me. Though I am not a religious person, I fully agree with the points that he makes. Pope Francis emphasizes this notion of solidarity and explains that it is vital to the preservation of our environment. The encyclical is interesting because it is not a message that applies solely to Catholics, but rather a message that applies to all people. Pope Francis' goal is to inspire young people to change the Earth's course for the better and potentially reverse some of the mistakes that humanity has made in the past. My ultimate goal in life is to contribute as much as I can to the world, and one of the things I can do is participate more in my community in hopes of improving the condition of our environment. I recently attended the CuriOdyssey beach clean-up, and I felt very excited and empowered in just the simple difference I was making. This led me to realize that there is even more that I can do. I have always wanted to volunteer with organizations that rescue marine wildlife and I plan to do so when I am of eligible age.
